Washington State dental hygienists are required to have proof of 15 hours of CE per year for re-license. The courses must relate to dental hygiene. No specifications are made that limit on-line courses.  The clinical dental team must also have BLS for health care providers certification by the American Heart Association.

For New Graduates: An initial license is issued with an expiration date of the hygienist’s upcoming birthday. If that birth date is within 90 days of initial license issue date, then the expiration date will be the following birth date, with CE requirements to be met prior to that reissue date.   If your birth date for renewal is over one year from the license issue date, then the CE requirement must be met prior to the renewal at your birth date the following year.
