Welcome back! I hope everyone had a nice relaxing summer and is ready for a brand new year at GSDHS. Our first meeting this year had a great turnout as we welcomed our first CE speaker, J.D. Huleen, from Ultreo. He gave us some excellent information on this cutting edge technology. Many of us are trying out the new brush to see what we think and to give our patients better feedback on this new product.
Remember HOD is coming up! This year it will be held Oct 20-21st in the Bellingham Ferry Terminal Building. We are honored to welcome dental hygiene legend Dr. Esther Wilkins as our CE speaker. Esther was unable to join us last year because of a fractured hip but she has recovered and is excited to present "A New Look at Detection & Remineralization of Dental Caries". Dr. Wilkins will speak on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. (3 CEU). Register online at WSDHA.
I would like to remind all delegates of GSDHS that we are conducting a training session at 6pm Friday Oct 12th at Marie Calendar's at Northgate. We will try to make it short so we can all enjoy our Friday evening with our families, or you can stay and socialize with your hygiene friends!
The Halloween toothbrush giveaway is happening again this year! We will need volunteers to help at the Highpoint and Yesler community centers on Sunday Oct 28th from 3-7 pm . Interested parties should call Tiffany Stonebraker at 206-383-8013.
In an effort to raise membership, and member participation, GSDHS is now providing, as a MEMBER BENEFIT, ALL FIFTEEN CE CREDITS required by Washington State law. CE courses will be offered in conjunction with general meetings, volunteer events, and as a week-end CE course. To take full advantage of this generous offer, members will need to attend all events offering CE credits.
We will hold our general meetings at a new venue this year, the Good Shepherd Community Center at 4649 Sunnyside Avenue N. in Wallingford. As in the past, we will meet on the second Tuesday of the month. To provide members with more CE credits per meeting, the business portion of the general meeting will take place at a new time, from 6:30 - 7pm. The 2 hour CE will follow from 7-9pm. Our next meetings are planned for October 9, and November 13th 2007. The CE for October 9th will be a presentation by Carri Cady about CariFree, a new approach to caries control in the dental office. The executive board of GSDHS meets on the fourth Wednesdays of each month at the Marie Callendar's restaurant in Northgate, from 7-9 pm.
We have a committee doing early planning for a sealant day to take place in February 2008. Date will be posted soon.
